You guys might remember my post about the amazing real-life flying dragon, this blue sea slug is actually a little bit similar to that, but instead of flying and being awesome, this creature got some dangerous habits and it’s even strong enough to kill and swallow venomous small creatures. Also this one is not a dragon, its a sea slug. Hard to believe, right?
It actually reminded me about the dozens of sci-fi creatures that I’ve seen on lots of video games and cartoons, like in Final Fantasy and Pokemon. Blue sea slug AKA Glaucus atlanticus is actually a cute little sea slug which grows into the tiniest average size of about 3 centimeters or sometimes can be seen in 5 and 8 cm’s. They usually preys on creatures like the venomous Portuguese Man o’ War Physalia physalis (also known as blue bottles) and the by-the-wind-sailor Velella velella, using its radular teeth bear serrated teeth on their blades giving out a powerful sting.
The Glaucus atlanticus has been first discovered back in 1977, where a couple of scientists named Johann Reinhold Forster and Johann George Adam Forster. They have mentioned this species in a publication, while they were touring on a ship during Captain Cook’s second voyage. Check out the video to see more live footage.
