New Species of Spiders Found in Oregon Cave

Amateur cave explorers have discovered a new family of spiders, that has never seen before. Scientists have already named them as Trogloraptor, which translates to “cave robber”.

This is said to be the first native spider family discovered since 1890. The Trogloraptor marchingtoni is about 3 inches long and has a very unusual set of claws on its legs.

“They’re biggish,” Lead author of the study, Charles Griswold said “But when you’re in a cave and it’s dark and there’s only the beam of your head lamp, they look much bigger. It’s quite astonishing to see them hanging from a few threads.”
