Kaspersky Lab, one of the world’s leading antivirus software companies, recently revealed details of an “advanced” hacker attack on its main systems, which the company thinks was used by the hackers to spy on its latest experiments.
The company assures that there were no products and services compromise or risks for customers. However, the cybersecurity firm is completely baffled by the technology behind the attack itself.
“Indeed, the cost of developing and maintaining such a malicious framework is colossal. The thinking behind it is a generation ahead of anything we’d seen earlier – it uses a number of tricks that make it really difficult to detect and neutralize,” said Eugene Kaspersky, CEO of Kaspersky Lab.
Kaspersky believes the attack to be originated from a “nation state”. The attack, dubbed Duqu 2.0, has exploited several zero-day vulnerabilities to compromise the company systems. Kaspersky admits that they’ve never seen a such an advanced attack before.
“Governments attacking IT security companies is simply outrageous. We’re supposed to be on the same side as responsible nations, sharing the common goal of a safe and secure cyberworld,” says Kaspersky “To me, it’s another clear signal we need globally-accepted rules of the game to curb digital espionage and prevent cyberwarfare.”

The company has filed statements with law enforcement agencies regarding the attack sources and have also notified Microsoft to release a system fix for the detected zero-day vulnerability. It’s available through the latest Windows update.
